The Eta Sigma Delta Society organised a special guest lecture from César Ritz Colleges Alumni Mr. Sebastian Schwietzer who returned to Switzerland to share tales from his dynamic Food & Beverage career.
In the few years since graduation, Mr. Schwietzer has led an interesting and fulfilling career that has taken him through roles in the hotel industry from China to Egypt. Interestingly, just as he was en route to a promising career as a Hotel General Manager, he took a leap to an entire different professional world and accepted the role as the Food Services Manager EMEA at Google in London, United Kingdom.
Petya Antonova, Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality Business Management student and current President of Eta Sigma Delta Committee Chapter Brig was extremely pleased with the guest lecture and the positive feedback she received from the event. She shared that a key take away message for her from the lecture was: “People in general shouldn’t be afraid to accept new challenges and take opportunities that in the beginning might sound a bit weird or not so promising. Moreover, as hospitality students we should explore different possibilities and even sometimes digress from our initial plans and goals to pursue something more exciting”.
Junyi Tsai, another current student in the Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality Business Management programme found Mr. Schwietzer’s lecture inspirational. He shared: “His experience of taking risks in seeking better opportunities in unfamiliar environment has encouraged me greatly in choosing my future career. More importantly, his Google experience has certainly expanded my perception of career opportunities with my Hospitality Management degree. It's extremely fascinating how he demonstrated the Food & Beverage industry is not only about generating profit but actually is about feeding people in a socially responsible manner. I truly enjoyed this guest lecturer session, organized by Eta Sigma Delta."
The Eta Sigma Delta Honour Society is a professional student organization that recognises hospitality and tourism students for outstanding academic achievements and professionalism. At César Ritz Brig the student members are very active and are dedicated to working together towards the development of the student experience on campus. Plans are currently underway for another guest lecture next term and a special signature event where they plan to involve the local community.
