Has it ever been more important to be equipped with the latest technology?

We pride ourselves on being one of the leading contemporary hospitality schools in the world, and that means having all of the most up-to-date gadgets and equipment as standard. Launching Bloom Mountain Studio at our Leysin campus on Friday, September 10 was a testament to our ambition to remain ahead of the game when it comes to the world of technology.

But here is the most important question: how exactly will this new recording studio contribute to the educational experience of our students?

Well, let’s take a look…

Elevating virtual events

Whether it’s the World of Hospitality event or virtual graduations, online events aren’t going anywhere just yet. With ultra-high resolution, 4K cameras, the screen will hardly feel like a barrier, but rather a window right into the studio!

Using Atem Mini Pro ISO, users will be able to mix images and sounds relayed through multiple cameras, computer screens, and microphones during the livestream of an event, editing in real time. The technology will be available for the use of students and staff alike to record and stream events in a sleek, professional manner.

Enhancing the experience of online classes

Last year’s online learning presented students and lecturers with plenty of new challenges – but it also revealed the benefits of virtual learning.

The possibility of attending classes from anywhere was, for many students a convenient and flexible option that can now be improved upon thanks to the latest recording equipment. As well as being of higher quality, we’ve also ironed out some of the difficulties that teaching virtually can bring. One such difficulty arises when it comes to online learners being able to see the whiteboard – this is particularly a problem when half the students are in class and half online, or when a lecturer prefers to use a whiteboard to teach.

This issue is resolved by Logitech Scribe, a whiteboard camera that captures and enhances everything written on the whiteboard in class so that everyone online can see it perfectly. In fact, this camera allows for even better visibility than if you were there in person – you won’t run a risk of having your vision blocked by the tall person sitting in front of you, or of forgetting your glasses at home!

All of the classes for the unique Executive Online Master of International Business in Hotel, Resort and, Wellness Management will be recorded in the new studio, and students of the program will benefit from the improved online experience.

Heightening the quality of podcasts

Podcasts have become increasingly popular over the past few years. The pandemic has undoubtedly contributed to the growth of this form of content, as it provides listeners with a community and is easy to access. That said, the quality of a podcast is paramount. Recorded in Bloom Mountain Studio, our webinars and Clubhouse conversations will be from now on of the highest quality.

We’ve had the honor of welcoming any number of impressive guest speakers to our school: former director of human resources at the RitzSuzanne Cote-Peover, VP of global operations at Marriott InternationalOliver Meinzer, and VP of global brand & marketing at SignifyAlexandra Retif-Gaillard, to name just Now, their lectures and discussions will be recorded so that past, present, and future students alike can benefit from their knowledge and wisdom. Listeners from all over the world will be able to tune in thanks to the latest streaming technology used in the studio.

Available for student use

The studio isn’t just for official events and lectures: whether working on a personal or academic project, the studio will be available for students to use, opening a world of new creative possibilities.

Dominic Szambowski, dean of Swiss Hotel Management School, stressed the importance of this addition to our campus, “From the online executive master's program to the virtual World of Hospitality event, not to mention the generally higher level of audio-visual experiences that our students demand, we were in great need of this studio. Our SHMS faculty put so much work into creating these programs and events, they are deserving of the highest quality of delivery. It was fantastic that the college prepped and tested the equipment over the summer so that we hit the ground running by our fall semester. A huge thanks to everyone involved!”

We look forward to putting this studio to use - lights, camera, action!
